faulkner edc was contracted to serve as the Geotechnical Engineer, Materials Testing Agent and ADA Designer for the new MAC athletic complex in the Brier Creek area of Raleigh. The MAC is a 21 acre state-of-the-art sports & entertainment venue conveniently located along I-540, in Brier Creek, just north of RDU. The MAC is a highly versatile, outdoor recreational flex-space, featuring (4) full-sized, lighted, natural grass 11v11 soccer/rugby fields that can be divided into (6) lacrosse/ultimate fields, (16) kickball/5v5 flag football fields, (12) 7v7 soccer/16” Softball/7v7 flag football fields, (24) or (32) youth-sized sports fields, or any combination of the above, plus a half soccer field, suitable for youth practices & games (phase 2). The MAC has a lighted sand court area, used primarily as (5) beach volleyball courts, but also used for sand soccer, sand football, sand ultimate, dodgeball, bocce, and cornhole. The facility also features a 4,000 Sq. Ft. clubhouse/ concessions building (phase 2) with adjacent, elevated, observation & picnic area. faulkner edc provided design criteria for soils used as subsurface for parking lots and for light pole foundation design. In addition we served as the QA agent determining day to day quality of materials being used to construct the site. Our design of the ADA ramps on the site facilitate the conveyance of pedestrians in and around the fields in a safe and efficient manner. This is a beautiful facility conveniently located for adult athletic fun!
